The additional lane increases capacity for this movement to 1,800 vehicles per hour. RTA also upgraded the service road on Sheikh Rashid Road.
The number of right-turn lanes from Sheikh Rashid Road towards Oud Maitha Road and Dubai–Al Ain Road was increased from two to three, raising capacity to 4,000 vehicles per hour.
A tunnel was also constructed to connect the Oud Maitha Road service road with the Sheikh Rashid Road intersection for traffic heading towards Bur Dubai.
Oud Maitha Road, Al Asayel Street and Al Wasl Club Street
Another major component of the RTA road improvements is the upgraded intersection connecting Oud Maitha Road, Al Asayel Street and Al Wasl Club Street.
Two bridges were constructed to improve connections between Al Asayel Street and Al Khail Road through Al Wasl Club Street.
The project also includes an additional two-lane bridge serving left-turn traffic from Al Asayel Street towards Oud Maitha Road.
RTA further improved entry and exit points at Al Wasl Club to reduce traffic conflicts with the main road.
Al Wasl Club Street and Al Khail Road
The intersection between Al Wasl Club Street and Al Khail Road has also been upgraded.
A two-lane bridge was constructed to serve traffic travelling towards Al Khail Road and Business Bay Crossing. Al Wasl Club Street was also expanded with a two-lane exit towards Al Khail Road.
The improvements include service roads in both directions and additional parking spaces, strengthening the connection between local roads and major Dubai corridors.
Za’abeel Palace Street, Al Khail Road and Oud Maitha Road
At the Za’abeel Palace Street, Al Khail Road and Oud Maitha Road intersection, RTA added a lane to the left-turn ramp carrying traffic from Al Khail Road towards Dubai–Al Ain Road.
This increased the capacity of the movement from 900 to 1,800 vehicles per hour.
A single-lane tunnel was also constructed for traffic travelling from Dubai–Al Ain Road towards the Oud Maitha Road service road.
The bridge carrying traffic from Al Khail Road towards Oud Maitha Road was expanded from two to three lanes, increasing its capacity from 2,200 to 3,300 vehicles per hour.
